What is SPOKES? SPOKES stands for Strategic Planning in Occupational Knowledge for Employment and Success. SPOKES is a ten-week career development program for participants who receive Temporary Assistance of Needy Families (TANF) assistance. The goal of SPOKES is to teach participants the skills and attitudes needed in order to obtain and retain employment, with the ultimate goal of self-sufficiency. SPOKES will also help students on the path to earning a West Virginia High School Equivalency Diploma or entering post-secondary education. Students are to consider the SPOKES classroom like a workplace. They are expected to behave professionally, be punctual and attend class on a regular basis. Participants must be referred to SPOKES by DHHR.
